About the Blessing Event

Animals become woven into our lives. And yet, we have so few ceremonies in which we simply stop and honour the extraordinary relationship we share with them.

On World Animal Day, we will.

For one beautiful hour, we will create sacred space, light a candle, speak their names and offer blessings of divine love, safety, belonging and Deep Peace.

We will also include blessings for all those animals in trouble. The lost, the frightened, the lonely, the sick, the hurting, and the animals caught in natural disasters or war. Farmed animals. Wild animals. Animals waiting for rescue. Animals without sanctuary.

And countless beings whose names we will never know.

Together, we will come into heart coherence and create, through our shared intention, a great forcefield of compassion, Divine Love and Deep Peace around the animal world.

This is blessing as spiritual activism. Love made conscious.

What will we do?

Together we will:

Light a candle and create a simple sacred space.

Bless the animals we love, whether beside us, far away, or beyond the veil.

Speak their names. There is much old magick in calling a name and holding them within our collective circle of love.

Widen the circle to animals everywhere who are frightened, hurting, lost, lonely or in danger.

Receive, by becoming still and listening. Perhaps the animals have a blessing for us, too.

And finally, we will carry that love back into the world through the choices we make after the event and the beings we protect.

Placing Names in the Circle

When you register, you are invited to place the names of up to six (or so) animals into our blessing circle.

They may be animals sharing your life now, animals living elsewhere, wild beings you hold particularly close, or beloved companions who have crossed the veil.

Their names will be held within the intention of our ceremony. During the Blessing of Names, Billie will speak a selection of names aloud before we pause together to hold every animal whose name has been entrusted to the circle in Divine Love and Deep Peace.

There is no need to send their story, circumstances or medical details. A name is enough.

And if you love more than six animals — as so many of us do — please bring them to our circle. Have their names with you on a piece of paper, hold their photographs, or simply carry them in your heart.

No beloved being is outside the circle simply because their name isn’t on a list or Billie doesn’t say them out loud.

Historical Use of Blessing

Blessing is an ancient human ritual, carried through generations in prayers, charms, invocations and words spoken over people, animals, homes and land. There is an old magick in it — the understanding that words spoken with love, intention and reverence can change the way we meet the world.

In the Celtic lands, healing and protection were often entwined with spoken prayer and charm: words for the sick, for travellers, for the hearth, for animals and for the turning seasons.

In the old Gaelic ways, the visible and unseen worlds were not entirely separate, and blessing could be a way of placing a being within a greater circle of protection, relationship and sacred regard.

Working within Druidry, that understanding speaks deeply to me. When I bless an animal, I’m acknowledging the sacred life before me and saying, May you be protected. May you be well. May you walk in peace.

I hope you can join us in this special event for animals everywhere.

About Billie Dean

Billie Dean is a modern fili, following the old Gaelic tradition of poet, storyteller, seer and keeper of sacred lore.

She is an innate interspecies telepath, Druid in the Faery tradition, author, filmmaker and lifelong animal advocate who has spent more than forty years listening to, learning from and caring for animals.

Together with her family, she founded Deep Peace Trust, a sanctuary in the Southern Tablelands of NSW where hundreds of rescued and free-living animals are offered safety, belonging and sanctuary for life.

Rooted in Celtic spirituality and reverence for the living Earth, Billie’s work asks us to remember something very simple:

We live in a world of beings, not things.

All proceeds from the event will support the 300 permanent residents of the Deep Peace Trust sanctuary.

Deep Peace to the animals we know.

Deep Peace to the animals we will never meet.

Deep Peace to all species.

Deep Peace to all beings.
